AFCON: Cameroon are African champions
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have been crowned winners of the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after overcoming an early setback to beat the Pharaohs of Egypt 2-1 at the Stade de l’Amitie in Libreville, Gabon.
Goals from Nicolas N’Koulou and Vincent Aboubakar sealed a remarkable comeback victory for Cameroon.
The Egyptians had taken the lead in the 22nd after Arsenal’s Mohamed Elneny was played into space in the box and he thumped the ball to beat the goalkeeper at his near post.
However, on the restart substitute Nicolas N’Koulou brought the Indomitable Lions level on 59 minutes – the defender rising high to head home a cross from Benjamin Moukandjo and make it 1-1.
In the 88th minute a fantastic goal from Vincent Aboubakar sealed victory for the Cameroonians. He had controlled a long ball, chipped it over a defender and volleyed home to seal victory for plucky Cameroon.
