Abuja, Lagos record full commercial activities, Delta Shut Down
Full commercial activities continued in Lagos and Abuja in spite of the directive from Labour for workers to join in the strike; but Delta State was practically locked down. Processions by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) were sighted marching from Nnebisi Road to Government House Asaba.
In Lagos, protesters had gathered early in strategic places in the state but they were soon dispersed and the road cleared by security men. In most places visited by our reporters, there was no incident of fracas between the protesters and security personnel.
The NLC in the early hours mobilised their members in a peaceful procession but the procession soon took over major roads, blocking traffic in the process. This prompted the police to step in and clear the roads.
By 9 am on Ikorodu road in Lagos, heavy traffic was reported. It was same for other busy roads in the state. Banks opened for business in Abuja and Lagos with no sign of low patronage.
Also offering services were filling stations which dispensed petrol at N145 per litre. However, the product sold at N150 at some independent marketers’ filling stations in Lagos.
In Delta State, all government offices were under lock and key with major roads in Asaba deserted.
