The Lagos State Government has called for better collaboration and harmonious relationship between stakeholders of Private and Public Schools in order to achieve continuous growth and improvement in the education sector.

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, made the call at the 13th Edition of the Total School Support Seminar / Exhibition held at Ten Degrees Event Centre, Billings Way, Oregun during a panel discussion with private and public stakeholders in the education sector.

She said the collaboration is critical and essential to maintaining the quality and standard of education across schools in the State, noting that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has initiated a wide range of reforms and policies geared towards improving and enhancing the education sector in Lagos.

According to her, “Some of these reforms and policies include developing school infrastructure, teachers’ capacity and welfare, review of the curriculum and most importantly integrating technology in teaching and learning across board. We are building more schools and congestion is drastically reducing in our classrooms.”

She averred that the government had introduced several programmes, which are aimed at integrating character development and moulding the pupils towards becoming better individuals and good ambassadors of society.

While appealing to private stakeholders to get approval from the government before establishing any school, she emphasised that the modalities set for registration might look tasking, but it is to ensure that only schools that meet the required standard are given approval.

Adefisayo also revealed the State Government’s plan to build a technological eco-friendly school structure with the first pilot to be constructed at Vetland Junior School, Agege, adding that the structure would be made up of containers and equipped with technological equipment and laboratories.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Abosede Adelaja, explained that the various programmes initiated by the State government were to reduce the increasing number of out of school children in Lagos.

While advising parents to stop the idea of abusing their children by sending them to hawk instead of to schools, the Permanent Secretary declared that the aim of the government is to produce children who are academically sound and can compete globally with their peers.
