Jonathan returns to a rousing welcome
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has returned to Nigeria after holidaying in Cote D’Ivoire. He arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on Wednesday evening. He was welcome by excited party faithful.
His party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a tweet Wednesday declared that: “The hero of our democracy is back home,” with a picture of the former President at the airport. Was rumoured to have gone on exile to which the immediate past President strongly retorted: “I’m not on exile”.
While he was away, President Muhammadu Buhari applauded his democracy credentials saying he was shocked when Jonathan called him to concede defeat during the last general election even when INEC was yet to announce the final result.
His return also coincides with President Buhari’s visit to Ogoni land on Thursday, June 2, to kick start the clean-up of the region despite heightened cases of militant activities in the Niger Delta.
It is not certain if Dr. Jonathan would make an appearance at the Ogoni clean event.
