Four Feared Killed As Temper Flares At Mile 12, Lagos
Four people have been feared dead in a riot at the Mile 12 area of Lagos State. Hoodlums were said to have set a school in the area on fire and also vandalised some vehicles. Some policemen were reportedly injured in the clash which is said to be as a result of ethnic differences.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP) Fatah Owoseni, told our Correspondent that the situation has been brought under control.
He dismissed the earlier insinuation the clash was between some none indigenes and indigenes operating in the market.
“I wonder why we always like to drum up sentiments in every little thing? How can someone say it was Hausa and Yoruba fighting? Is it only these two groups that trade in that market? I think we need to exercise little caution when commenting on sensitive issues like this”, he added.
At the time of this report, it was not clear what actually caused the crisis and even the Police authority maintained sealed lips.
But a security source told our Correspondent that the genesis of the crisis was distribution of the few available sales out-lets in the market.
