Illegal Land Allocation: Senate Orders Demolition of Jonathan, Adokie, Azazi, Others’ Buildings
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Acting National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Uche Secondus, former Attorney General of Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke and 26 other top Nigerians were allocated plots of land in a place designated as Tourist Cenre, the Senate revealed on Friday.
The Senate Committee on FCT made the revelation and insisted that on-going development in the area be stopped and the buildings pulled down.
According to the Senate Committee on FCT, other beneficiaries of the plots of land located in Maitama were former governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda, the late National Security Adviser, Andrew Owoye Azazi among others. Maitama is one of Abuja’s high-brow areas and it has become the preferred choice of the high and mighty in Nigeria. The other area is Asokoro and both have been hot theatres of land grabbers and land scams in the FCT.
The committee chairman, Senator Dino Melaye (APC Kogi West) who revealed this during a budget defence meeting between the committee and the FCT Minister, Muhammed Bello, has however threatened to order revocation of the plots.
An overtly furious Melaye said that his committee had directed that construction work should stop.
Melaye acting on the Senate’s directive to all its standing committees last week to embark on oversight functions of agencies of government under them, visited the plots of land in Maitama district along with members of his committee where they saw construction work ongoing. He ordered all work to cease.
