Operatives Invade Kayode Are’s, Retired DG SSS, Lagos Home
Operatives suspected to be personnel of the State Security Service (SSS) on Wednesday invaded the private home of its former Director General, Kayode Are, in Lagos.
A top officer of the secret service who confirmed this to our Correspondent added that the former SSS boss played host to his former agency at about 12 noon.
Witnesses also reported sound of gunshots before Mr. Are was ejected from his residence.
Another source added also that the DSS broke down the outer gates of his residence and also his front door.
It was gathered that the present DG of DSS wrote to Mr. Are demanding that he vacate his residence because the allocation of the house may not have been legal. It is customary for all former DGs of the DSS to receive a property paid by the Federal Government after they leave the service.
Are was appointed as the DG of the DSS by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, serving from 1999 to 2007.
Effort to get official position of the service on the development was not successful as the telephone call to the DSS headquarters in Abuja was not answered.
