The Delta Commissioner for Women Affairs,  Community and Social Development, Mrs. Omatsola Williams,  says her ministry executed 148 micro projects across the state between 2016 and 2018.

Williams told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Asaba that out of them,  133 projects had been completed and the remaining 15 were ongoing.

“Before we came on board in 2016, the ministry had only 13 micro projects completed.  But before March 2016, I had to look inward and reshuffle the place for us to achieve more”.

“I am happy and proud of our achievements so far and I am yet to see any state that can compete with us in terms of community development projects under the World Bank State Employment and Expenditure For Result (SEEFOR) programme,’’ she said.

The commissioner also said that the 133 projects completed across the three senatorial districts were of World Bank standard.

According to her, in Delta North Senatorial District, 62 projects were completed; in Delta South, 30 projects were completed while in Delta Central, 41  projects were completed.

“We still have 15 projects that are ongoing and we pray that they will be completed before the end of this administration,” she told NAN.

She explained that the ministry  involved the communities in executing the projects.  “They are not projects we give out to contractors, the communities executed the projects on their own.

“Some of these projects include:  building of science laboratory blocks , ICT centres, market, classrooms, civic centres and electricity.

“And our greatest achievement is involving the riverine communities which have never been involved before because of the high cost of implementation there  due to their terrain.

“I am happy to say the two riverine communities: Obaghoro and Ebrohimi, all in Warri North Local Government Area of the state got electricity with extension boat and generators.”

“They also had concrete walk ways to link one town to the other and some other communities also had  their water projects linked  to other communities,” she said.

Williams told NAN that  the projects had impacted positively on the lives of the people of the various communities.

According to her, the ICT centres have been a blessing to the communities, whose children used to travel far into the cities before to register for the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African  Examination Certificate (WAEC) examinations.

She said:“These centres were not just built; they were also equipped with various science and ICT equipments.
