Mr Sylvester Nsa, the commissioner representing Cross River on the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) says the commission has embarked on renovation of 40 schools in the State.
Nsa disclosed this on Wednesday in Calabar at the end of an inspection tour of NDDC projects which included schools and roads in the southern senatorial zone.
He said that some of the projects had been completed and handed over to the authority of the schools.
“We decided to embark on project inspection of the schools to ascertain the level of work done by the contractors. We are currently renovating 40 schools (primary and secondary) across the three senatorial zones of the state. Already, 12 have been completed and handed over to authorities of the schools and the ministry of education has been informed,’’ he said.
He added that during the inspection he inaugurated two science laboratory equipment, 96 laptop computers and principal’s quarter undertaken by NDDC in Government Technical College Ikot Effanga Calabar.
“As an interventionist agency we are doing our best with limited resources at our disposal. As I speak, there are so many road projects across the state being undertaken by the commission. We are determined to make a difference in terms of improving the infrastructure development of Cross River,’’ he said.
According to him, all the projects so far completed were done in line with set standards and specifications.
The commissioner commended the state government and the host communities for their cooperation and support to the NDDC.
