First West Africa Mountain Cycling Championship: Nigeria’s Kurotumi emerges winner

 

A Nigerian, Abaka Kurotumi has emerged the winner of the maiden edition of the West Africa king of the Mountain Cycling championship in Ghana.

According to the national coach, Mohammed Bashiru, the occasion is the first ever International Africa cycling event, dubbed West Africa King of the Mountain Cycling Championship, where 60 participants from Ghana, Burkina Faso, Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin Republic, Nigeria and 12 clubs from the host nation competed in the cycling tourney, battled for a distance of 48.57km, and Kurotumi became winner after sustaining the tempo to get to the end.

He said Ghanaian’s Solomon Tagoe finished second while Burkina Faso’s Guigmde Arnaud came third in the one day race hosted in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture, the Traditional leaders in Kwahu and the Ghana Cycling Federation.

Also speaking on the event, the President of Cycling Federation of Nigeria, (CFN) Giandomenico Massari, described Kurotumi’s victory as the beginning of better thing to come for the game in Nigeria.

Massari said the federation had intensified efforts since he assumed office as president to popularise the sport in the country. “The evidence is what we are beginning to see and many more will come reap in the near future”,he said.
