Catholics to Demonstrate Against Killings in Nigeria

Catholics across Lagos State will tomorrow May 22, 2018 will join other Catholics in Nigeria on a solemn peaceful demonstration to in view of the spate of incessant gruesome killings in Nigeria, and in solidarity with the Diocese of Makurdi and every family who has lost a dear one in every unfortunate circumstance, irrespective of creed, tribe, religion or political affiliation.
The demonstration according to the Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred A. Martins is “for us to join all Catholics and all men and women of goodwill to express our deepest displeasure with the current state of the nation”.
The programme will begin with holy mass at St Leo’s Catholic Church, Ikeja by 10 am after which the demonstration will begin and terminate at Governor’s Office, Alausa, Ikeja.
The Central message(s) of the demonstration according to the organisers is:
- Stop the killing in Nigeria
- Federal government must wake up to its responsibility of protecting the life of EVERY NIGERIAN irrespective of creed, tribe or political affiliation.
- FGN must guarantee safety of life and property of every Nigerian everywhere at all times.
- Life is sacred therefore it must be cherished and protected by all means.
The demonstrators will be praying for the repose of the souls of all those murdered, peace in Nigeria, healing and restoration in all attacked communities while also drawing global attention to the on-going carnage in Nigeria by setting an agenda for the true national discourse and speaking to the government to wake up to their responsibilities
Demonstrators have however been enjoined to strictly follow the directives of the police, LASTMA officials and the MOD for an orderly and peaceful demonstration
