Rainy season: EKEDC urges Lagosians to be wary of power lines
May 16, 2018
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Wednesday appealed to some Lagosians fond of staying or transacting businesses under high tension cables to be wary of the cables.
Mr Godwin Idemudia, the General Manager, Corporate Communications Unit of EKEDC made the plea while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Idemudia said that the appeal became necessary because most of the power lines might be under stress from strong winds, now that the rainy season had started.
“The rainy season is here. EKEDC is appealing to Lagosians to stay away from such cables.
“We are all aware that this is the period we always record cases of fallen poles and cables.
“Parents need to caution their wards against playing under power lines,’’ he said.
Idemudia said that residents should report any case of fallen pole, transformer fault or cable cut to EKEDC Customer Care offices near them.
He also urged residents to expose their neighbours, who engaged in energy theft to the nearest EKEDC office in their areas.
NAN reports that on May 3, a 66MVA transformer at Alagbon Injection substation in Lagos was engulfed by fire during a heavy rain but no life was lost.
