Mr Labaran Maku, the National Secretary, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has called on the rural dwellers to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC).

Maku who was a former Minister of Information made the appeal on Sunday during his tour of communities in Agyaragub Tofa area of Lafia in Nasarawa State.

He said that the residents of the state would be able to vote for candidates of their choices during the forthcoming 2019 general elections with their PVCs.

Maku told them that getting the PVCs was the only power that would enable them vote for credible persons that would bring development to the rural areas.

He said that apart from the road the present government in the state constructed to Kwandere,his village, the government had not constructed the road from Local Government Headquarters to any village in the state.

He added that he was ashamed with the deplorable state of rural roads and amenities in most rural communities in the state.

“Look at how terribly bad the road to your community is as we were coming today.

“If I am elected the governor of the state in 2019, I will dualize the roads to all the communities that are 20 kilometers away from the capital.’’

Maku said that he was not in support of the creation of state police in the country.

He said that given the security challenges in the country, state police would be inevitable.

He, however, said that Nigeria was not yet mature for it following the attitudes of some state governors against their political opponents.
If state police is created, they would use it to intimidate their opponents, he said.

“Anybody advocating for state police is just asking for governors to have legitimate armed force or power to destroy their opponents which is not good for our democracy.

“If governors cannot conduct free and fear election, how can they control state police,” he said.
