Stop killing of Christians or Nigeria may cease to exist – Adeboye
Respected cleric and General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has warned that Nigeria may cease to exist if killing of Christians continue.
According to the pastor fondly called ‘Daddy’ by most Pentecostals, the 2019 election may not hold if the killings of Christians is not put in check before the election “because nobody will come out to vote”. He gave the warning at the Friday Night Holy Ghost service, a monthly flagship programme of the church where hundreds of thousands of Christians gather to seek the face of God.
Adeboye’s warning came days after President Donald Trump of the United States urged President Muhammadu Buhari to do something about the killings of Christians in the Northern part of Nigeria. Trump had during Buhari’s visit to the White House specifically charged Buhari to do something about the mauling of Christians which he described as “unacceptable”.
Adeboye recounted his chat with his wife, Pastor Folu, recently in Germany in the aftermath of the killing of some Christians in a church in the North by some gunmen. He said the incident made him sad and cold to the point that his wife noticed it.
He also warned that if the killings persist, there may be no 2019 elections because people would be afraid to go out and cast their vote.
He, however, explained that he was not prophesying what God told him but was speaking based on the situation on ground where Christians are shot in their places of worship and attacked even in their communities and homes.
He described the killings as very serious and urged the church to pray fervently for divine intervention.
In recent years, global attention has shifted to Nigeria because of the ruthless murder of Christians in a section of the country.
