Social media crucial in information dissemination–Ondo Commissioner

The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Yemi Olowolabi, has described social media as a crucial and fast means of information dissemination.
Olowolabi said this in Akure on Monday while playing host to a delegation from TecPoint Global Solutions led by Mr Deepak Mehta.
The commissioner said that the world had become a global village where social media would continue to play a critical role.
“The Ondo State Government has a well equipped Information Technology Centre which was established to guarantee service delivery in the governance and administrative system in the state,’’ he said.
Olowolabi added that the State Integrated Financial Information System (SIFMIS) introduced into the administrative system in the state was aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability as well as boost e-governance in the state.
“The creation of the Department of Electronic and New Media in the ministry was to make information dissemination faster and to showcase the achievements of the government to the outside world,’’ he added.
He stated that the power of social media could not be over emphasised, adding that the ministry was ready to welcome any idea that could make information dissemination faster and credible.
Earlier, Mehta said his team was in the state to partner with the government in the areas of information gathering and management.
Metha said his outfit was ready to provide these by offering educational solutions on information processing and management.
“ We are going to deliver a service which is of value and quality job that will be effective and efficient in propagating the activities of the state government through the social media,’’ he said.
He expressed gratitude to the management staff of the ministry for the audience granted his team to share knowledge on information management and gathering.
