NIMC commits to data protection, seeks online publishers’ support on public trust

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has once more reiterated its commitment to data protection in the country.
The Commission during a two- day roundtable with online publishers in Lagos, called for a more robust partnership with the online media.
Speaking at the event which held on 21st and 22nd July, 2024 the Director General/ CEO NIMC, Abisoye Odusote emphasised that the omissions governed by high data security policy.
“This Roundtable aims to forge a partnership that leverages your strengths to support our mission while ensuring that any misconceptions are promptly and accurately addressed.”
“NIMC under my watch is committed to complying with all extant laws and regulations governing the protection of data in Nigeria.
So far, we have done so much towards ensuring compliance with the highest standards of data security, sanitizing the system and processes, while ensuring the integrity of data on the country’s identity database. We shall not rest on our oars.”
She however urged the publishers please to be guided by professionalism and ethics in the discharge of their duties, bearing in mind that they owe the society a social responsibility.
