Betta Edu top of the class as Senate screens 14 ministerial nominees
No fewer than 14 ministerial nominees were screened Monday by the Senate with 36-year-old Dr Betta Edu of Cross River emerging the clear show-stopper as she answered all questions intelligently with measured calmness.
A medical doctor who served as Commissioner for Information in her state, Edu gave a clear and lucid roadmap on how to revamp the health sector and arrest the migration of medical workers to other countries. She is the youngest of the ministerial nominees.
Some nominees who were former Senators were asked to take a bow and go while some others were thoroughly scrutinized by the Senators.
The screening commenced during a plenary session that started around 12:41 pm upon the arrival of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Among those screened were former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; Abubakar Kyari from Borno State; Nkiruka Onyejeocha (Abia State); Bello Muhammad (Sokoto State); Sani Abubakar Danladi (Taraba State); and Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa State).
