Shekau in new video claims responsibility for University of Maiduguri bombing
Ghostly Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the terrorist group Boko Haram has claimed his group was responsible for Monday’s twin suicide bombing at the University of Maiduguri which took the life of a veterinary Professor, Aliyu Usman Mani, from Katsina State and four others. No fewer than 17 other people were injured in the dawn blasts.
A video featuring an audio recording purporting to be Shekau was posted on social media late on Monday.
“The bomb that exploded on Monday morning, it’s our brothers responsible for it,” the recording said. The source of the video was not confirmed but Shekau’s claim followed a similar pattern in which the insurgents arrange videos purportedly from them.
Boko Haram insurgency has killed about 15,000 people and displaced more than 2 million in Nigeria. The onslaught on members of the sect by the military has pushed them to abandon villages and their strongholds in Borno State to take revenge on soft targets.
