Wike hosts Tinubu in Rivers, Amaechi absent at APC Presidential rally
Governor Nyesom Wike, a leading member of the G-5 of the PDP hosted Asiwaju Bola Tinubu the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate in Government House, Port Harcourt, after the APC campaign in Rivers on Wednesday.
Wike recalled how Tinubu pledged his commitment to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 even when there was overwhelming need to drop the notion of a second term for Buhari on account of sufferings of the masses.
Wike has been at loggerheads with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party and has refused to campaign for Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate.
The latest gesture by Wike suggests he might be covertly supporting the APC candidate as against the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Recall that while Atiku canceled his campaign in Rivers after a series of controversies and alleged threat of violence, Tinubu got the campaign venue free of charge.
However, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, a political foe of Wike and member of the APC stayed away from Tinubu’s campaign rally in Rivers. Amaechi is the APC leader in the state.
The State Publicity Secretary of APC, Darlington Nwauju, said that the former Minister could not attend the rally because he was busy with academic programmes.
“If you are not aware, the former Transportation Minister is a Law school student and is attending to his academics. But you must also know that Amaechi is firmly in charge of the APC structure in Rivers State,” he stated.
