Nigerians knock Buhari over claim that PDP built nothing in 16 years
President Muhammadu Buhari has said his administration inherited absolutely nothing from the previous governments of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He claimed that past administrations of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP led by former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, late Umar Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan left nothing to build on. Buhari spoke to Journalists Monday in Daura after attending Eid prayers to celebrate Eid El Kabir.
But his claim has received strong rebuke from Nigerians who dismissed it as tissues of lies. “The President cannot claim that past leaders built nothing or left nothing. We are all in this country and we saw what the PDP government did. They may not have done a lot relative to available resources but they improved the lot of Nigeria economically, infrastructural-wise and otherwise. The President is economical with the truth. He should face his own duty. It is obvious he has no ideas on how to get the country out of this present mess, the worst state of Nigeria in recent memory”, fumed Bukola Olajide in a WhatsApp posting.
Other respondents to the President’s claim on social media dismissed him as unserious and lacking in inspiration. “The President should tell us how he would take us to the land of promise, he got Nigeria into this recession; he should tell us how he would help us get out of it. This blame game is one too many”, a Facebook posting by Noble Olali said.
Buhari had said: ‘‘I want Nigerians to realise that what this government inherited after 16 years of the PDP government was no savings, no infrastructure, no power, no rail, no road and no security.
‘‘Nigerians can see what we have done on Boko Haram and what we are doing to resolve the problem in the Niger Delta. Before the elections, we identified three major problems confronting our country. The first is security; we need to sufficiently secure our country to manage it well.
‘‘The second is economy, especially job for the youths and fighting corruption which is continuous. ‘For the youths, graduates and non-graduates who are interested in agriculture, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the CBN are doing something to provide employment for them,’’ the President said.
A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu stated that President Buhari was observing this year’s Eid holiday in his native home Daura, Katsina State and would return to Abuja after the two-day public holidays
