Gunmen kill popular lawyer in Rivers State
It was a bloody and gloomy Sunday night in Port Harcourt as yet-to-be-identified gunmen killed a prominent lawyer, Mr. Ken Atsuete, in his Port Harcourt residence, the Rivers State capital. Atsuete, an outspoken lawyer was until his death the counsel to some sacked local government chairmen in the state. He was said to have been shot several times at his residence.
The assailants were reported to have forced their way into his apartment and shot him several times before bolting away. They did not take anything from his house, giving the impression that they were out for his life.
Former Governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, at the twilight of his tenure conducted local government elections which brought in 24 chairmen to administer the affairs of local governments but they were all sacked by the Nyesom Wike government.
The sacked Council Chairmen have since gone to court to challenge their removal.
The remains of the slain lawyer have been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Teaching Hospital mortuary.
