#ENDSARS memorial: Police confirms 2 people in custody for violating agreement of the protest
Oct. 20, 2021
The Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu says only two protesters were arrested at the Lekki toll gate #ENDSARS memorial procession.
Odumosun while addressing news men at the venue said those who were able to identify themselves were released by the police, but that the others violated the agreement of the procession that it would be done in vehicles and not people gathering around the toll gate.
He noted that the toll gate area was a residential area and not a public space.
Odumosu however reiterated that the Police would not stop anyone from protesting, as long as it is within the ambit of the law.
Nigerian youths on Wednesday defied the heavy presence of security personnel to hold a memorial car procession at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos.
The procession is organised to mark the one-year anniversary of the #EndSARS protests and honour victims of police brutality.
Although some arrests have been made by the police at the scene, the youths were not deterred as they held hands and marched with their fists raised up.
Others remained in their vehicles waving Nigerian flags, blaring car horns, and chanting songs of solidarity.
Police authorities in Lagos ahead of the anniversary had threatened to resist any form of protest and arrest anyone taking part in it.
