Threat letter: Police arrests one, appeals for calm in Sokoto
September 13, 2021
The Police in Sokoto State has called for calm following reports that a threat letter was sent by bandits to some communities.
Written in the Hausa language, the said attackers mentioned five communities – Shuni, Kwanar Kimba, Rikina, and Dange, all in Dange/Shuni Local Government Area, causing panic among the residents.
But the state Commissioner of Police, Kola Okunlola, in a statement on Sunday, assured members of the communities that the police are on the trail of those who wrote the letter.
Okunlola also said one person has been arrested and is helping the police with its investigations.
While urging residents to disregard the threats, the CP assured residents of their continued safety.
Sokoto is one of the states in the North-West region that has recently come under attack by bandits who kidnap for ransom, rape, steal, and murder people villages.
Last week, Governor Aminu Tambuwal invoked an executive order banning motorists from plying the Marnona/Issa Road linking the eastern part of the state.
