Jailbreak: Okah is still in our custody – NPS
The Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) has confirmed that the suspected mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombings, Charles Okah is still in prison custody at the Kuje Prison, Abuja.
The spokesperson of the NPS, Mr. Francis Enobore stated this in a response to a speculation about jailbreak from the Prison.
While denying the escape of the mastermind of Independence Day Bombing, Mr Enobore promised to provide an update on an incident that occurred on Friday night in the prison which did not involve the suspect.
Charles Okah who is a member of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) was reported to have escaped from Kuje prison.
Okah has been on trial for the 2010 Independence Day bombing that killed 27 people during the country’s 50th independence anniversary. His brother, Henry, has since been convicted by a court in South Africa.
MEND which used to be a notorious militancy group eventually accepted the federal government’s amnesty and stopped the destruction of pipelines and kidnap of oil workers.
