Angry Ministry Workers Demand Sack of Minister over Unpaid Allowances
Workers of the Federal Ministry Finance on Monday staged a peaceful protest at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, demanding the removal of the Minister, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun for negligence and non-payment of their allowances totalling N1.2 billion even when she has collected N30 million as annual house rent.
The workers who thronged the ministry’s gate and environ displayed placards with various messages. They accused the minister of being insensitive and an agent of negative change.
The various placards read: “Kemi Adeosun must go”; You are destroying Federal Ministry of Financé”;
“Inflation is 15% courtesy of Adeosun”
Others read: “PMB agent of positive change, Adeosun agent of negative change”; “Adeosun score card is zero.”
Attempt by some senior officers of the ministry to calm frayed nerves was rebuffed by the placards-bearing protesters who disrupted traffic in the arena.
Inside sources said the minister has not been able to get a buy-in of the workers in her quest to reform the finance ministry especially the processes of administration which had been resisted by established civil servants in the system.
