55 Nigerians stole N1.35trn under Obasanjo, Yar’adua, Jonathan – Sagay
The chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Itse Sagay, on Monday said “55 public officials and businessmen under the administrations of Olusegun Obasanjo, Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan stole over N1.35trillion.”
Sagay made the revelation at the conference on Promoting International Co-operation in Combating Illicit Financial Flows and Enhancing Asset Recovery to Foster Sustainable Development in Abuja.
The two-day conference was declared open by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.
The PACAC Chairman stated that the figure was captured in a study related to only six years, 2006-2013.
He noted that the figure of looted funds in the period under review was much higher when “fuel subsidy scam, billion arms purchase scam, hundreds of millions of dollars taken from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation by a former minister to bribe election officials in 2015, were taken into consideration.”
Speaker after speaker pointed to corruption and the challenge of tracking illicit funds as a major challenge for the Nigerian government and a priority area which the leaders must focus attention.
