Nigeria’s Rivers United suffered early exit out of the CAF Champions League. They squandered a three-goal advantage in the first leg to go down 0-4 to El-Merreikh of Sudan, who won 4-3.
United will now compete for the Confederation Cup.
The Nigerian team had raised hope after beating El-Merreikh 3-0 in the first leg, at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
United`s striker, Guy Kuemain, scored twice in the 15th and 17th minutes while midfielder, Esosa Igbinoba scored the third goal in the 82nd minute.
Al-Merrieikh`s attacker, Bakri Babeechar, almost scored for his side in the 20th minute but his goal bound shot was saved by United`s keeper, Sunday Rotimi. But in Sudan El-Merreikh bounced back to beat United 4-0.
