Acting DDI Pays Visit to Media Houses in Lagos, Solicits Continuous Support
The Acting Director Defence Information (DDI), Brigadier General Tukur Gusau has solicited for the support of media establishments in reporting activities of Armed Forces of Nigeria through prompt and balanced report .
The Defence Spokesman stated this during his familiarisation visit to media establishments in Lagos as part of his efforts to identify and to further renew the existing cordial relationship with the media outfits in Nigeria since assumption of office. Brigadier General Gusau while pledging the commitment of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS , General Lucky Irabor CFR towards ensuring that the lives of all Nigerians are safeguarded from any form of violence, especially during the forthcoming 2023 General Elections, appreciated the media for projecting the activities of the Armed Forces in good light. He pointed out that the roles of the military and the media during elections remains very crucial, therefore the need for more cooperation and collaboration for a free, fair and credible elections in the country. Familiarising with the management of Arise Television, Silver Bird Television, Television Continental and Channels Television, the DDI on behalf of the CDS commended the media establishments for their objectivity and positive projection of the Armed Forces of NIGERIA. The management of the Lagos based media establishments visited in their various responses, applauded the Defence Spokesman for the visit, as they declared their willingness and assurance to cooperate , partner and collaborate with the military to ensure a successful elections devoid of any violence in the interest of national security, unity, and progress . While in Lagos, the Defence Spokesman during a courtesy call on the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Nigerian Army Major General Christopher Ajunwa stated that the roles of the media in the reportage of military activities and the forthcoming elections is crucial culminating in his visit. He called on military personnel to be deployed during the elections to remain apolitical and abide by the rules of engagements . In his response, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division Nigerian Army , Major General Ajunwa described the visit as timely especially at this time of elections when the roles of the military will be visible. He assured all law abiding citizens in his Area of Responsibility of safety as they go out to perform their civic responsibility.
